Bio/Research

Dirk de Waal is a multi-skilled media professional, event producer, experiential curator and sustainable fashion scholar with vast industry experience spanning over 18 years. His work in television, fashion, and event production has taken him across four continents producing over 400 projects and heading up the line production of multiple reality television shows and live television broadcasts.

He has a deep passion for exploring theory and ways to bridge practice and theory within the fashion and entertainment industries, primarily focusing on sustainable, inclusive, and regenerative practices within these industries. His academic interests and research focus on sustainability as an ontological way of being, considering DIY activities and behaviours as an approach within a design praxis to foster a greater connection between an object and the user-maker.
