Bio/Research

Angela Lee is an Assistant Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University's Faculty of Law. Lee’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of law and policy, technology and innovation, the environment, society, and various forms of justice. Her doctoral work, in which she develops a framework for "technology justice" in the context of Canada's agri-food sector, was supported by a number of scholarships and awards, including a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowship, an Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law’s Shirley E. Greenberg Scholarship and Scholarship in Environment and Sustainability. Her latest research project examines the state of innovation policy in Canada, arguing that an understanding of innovation that draws on the concept of reciprocal relations can be useful for better directing innovation towards shared social and environmental ends.

Lee has previously taught courses in Food Law, Animals and the Law, and Contract Law at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law and at Dalhousie University's Schulich School of Law, where she was a 2019-2020 Schulich Fellow. She is a co-editor of Food Law and Policy in Canada (Toronto: Carswell, 2019), and her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the UBC Law Review, the Dalhousie Law Journal, the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law, the Windsor Review of Legal and Social Issues, and Canadian Food Studies.
